On April 13, we took the 930p slot for the Tommy London $5 Rock Show, which happened to be coincident with his birthday! There were no showers involved, which was great, but in the light of the tragedy on the subway two days before, attendance was less than usual – though still excellent for a wednesday night! Opening the show was Thornes, one of NY’s premier guitar bands, and who came on short notice due to a late cancellation of the original opening act (presumably covid, but we don’t know). After us was Supersonic Blonde, a cover band who rocks the stage with their twist of a few classics. For the night, we were the only one playing primarily originals, but we did two covers: one as a tribute to the late Taylor Hawkins, who passed only a few weeks ago, and one so that we could have Tommy London himself come up on stage and sing with us! Also of historical note: for the first time ever, Jay broke a string on stage during a song, finally settling the question once and for all of whether it is important to bring an extra guitar to the show.
