Angel Leyva

Angel Leyva was born in Manhattan, but grew up in Mexico. His father – a guitar player – played in tribute bands for The Doors and Led Zeppelin, and so Angel discovered John Bonham at an early age. But it was in the Doors cover band that he got his start on drums, after the band’s drummer failed to show up for practice one day. That led to stints in St. Touch Me (Doors tribute) and Kashmir (Zeppelin tribute), and a spot in an originals band, Q-agulo. Eventually the tribute band won a Battle of the Bands contest and ended up playing shows all over Mexico. Recently he returned to New York City and was just getting back into playing drums when he answered an email from Outpost 79 looking for a drummer. Now he lives in the Jackson Heights/Elmhurst area and is ready for the next phase of OP79.

Wish Angel a happy birthday on May 28.
