Contrasting Emotions

We have very contrasting emotions this week, although it must be admitted that the overriding one is sadness.

Chris Cornell was one of the greatest rock voices in history.  Soundgarden was one of Seattle’s leading bands coming out of the early 90s movement that also gave us Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and other great bands.  Although they represented the end of the party-all-the-time metal years of the 80s, they produced the best rock of the era and with the rise of hip hop may have been the last great rock outbreak from a single city (although we like to believe that it’s only a matter of time before someone discovers the rock scene in New York City).  Cornell’s voice was one of the most distinctive not just from Seattle but from anywhere, and who didn’t love his duet with Eddie Vedder in Temple of the Dog?  We all all greatly saddened by the lost of one of the greatest talents in rock.

This week, Outpost 79 plays its last show for a long time, which will be a farewell to Tommy and Matt as they move away from New York and begin their lives in other places (not together, mind you).  This will mark the end of what was a wonderful 15 months or so, which saw us come together, write a pile of songs, and play shows in NYC at places like Desmonds, Connolly’s, Blackthorn 51, and of course, Arlenes’ Grocery.  Thank you to everyone who joined in on this trip, and we hope to see you there thursday night.

The happy emotion – and, really, the only thing to be happy about – is from the fact that next weekend, Matt and Mike will go into the studio to finish the third of three studio productions that will go into an EP that we will release this summer.  There will of course be plenty of notice, and we hope you’ll enjoy it.  More details when the time comes.

So it is mostly a sad time for us, but the upcoming EP release gives us something to look forward to even after this week.  We hope you’ll continue to follow this website and enjoy what the future brings!
